What are the governance challenges facing CIOs, and how can they be overcome?

Governance for IT efforts is as varied as a title for IT professionals. Steering Committees with charters are a good place to start. Along with steering committees, CIOs need a defined line of authority into their board’s finance committee and strategic planning committees, as well as a seat at the table with other C-suite professionals for a management voice and regular access to and reporting for the Medical Executive Committees. When plans are put together for 3-5-7 years and approach the magnitude of $30–50–70 million dollars, it is apparent that governance is required.
