The June 22, 2009 cover of Modern Healthcare is entitled “On the Clock” and is sub-captioned “The longer providers wait to adopt IT, the harder it will become to pass the ‘meaningful use’ test to qualify for economic stimulus cash.” And when you turn to the page of the cover story, it is entitled “Under the Gun” and sub-captioned “Providers would have to jump through higher and higher hoops to qualify for IT payments the longer they wait.”
Well, that certainly tells the story on the front page that the Economic Stimulus monies require real work to be done in real time in order to qualify for payments in outer years. So:
Where is your organization positioned?
What questions are being asked of you by your governing boards?
How are your medical staffs reacting to EHR roll-outs?
Who can help you figure this out?
Why are you waiting to act?
The MH article now talks about the $34B in funding available for physicians and hospitals that adopt a certified EHR, and meet the criteria outlined for “meaningful use.” Podcasts, webinars, seminars, position papers, experts, associations and the like have all talked about the impact this landmark legislation will have since it was signed on February 17th by President Obama. The time for talking is over, the time to take action is upon us.
The money will not wait, and as the article comments, it will only get harder to qualify the longer that you wait!
